No Apologies

After the Christmas break I took I became less and less active when it came to commenting on posts and interacting with my new readers. Most of it was because I was busy at work and just had a lot on my mind. I noticed a lot of you were also busy as well. A lot of you made apologies to your readers for not posting or for it not being the best quality. One question I have for all of you.

Why are you apologizing?

When you go to your normal 9 -5 and you want a day off you make a request. When you are a stay at home mom and need a break you call family or a babysitter and it's taken care of. You don't tweet and email your office all day about how you are sorry you are gone and that you WILL be back tomorrow and hope that they forgive you.

Why do we do it on our blogs?

Another thing I see is when people feel lost for inspiration and don't have anything to post about. Know what's awesome about your blog? YOU get to decide when and how much you post. If you just don't have anything to write about that is perfectly alright. I don't look at the number of consecutive days you post and decide whether or not I like your blog. I look at content and interaction. You might only post three times a week but those posts are full and rich with content and speak of you. I see in the comments you interacting with readers and that's what I enjoy.

Quit beating yourself up.

Everyone has a life outside of blog land. It's crazy, I know. But I have one and I know that you do too. One that I thoroughly enjoy and don't want to miss. Why I do LOVE this community there are things going on behind the scenes like dishes, laundry and sleep that I must take care of. So I am not going to apologize that I don't post everyday and that I am a day behind on emails. Because I know you all have been there and know what it's like to feel uninspired and wanting to watching an episode of Parenthood and eat some Ben & Jerry's and not check your phone. It's okay. I'll forgive you.

  1. Thanks Brin! You are right, why do we feel guilty and beat ourselves up? It's just silliness.

  2. I completely agree! Life needs to go on. We don't need to blog 24/7!

  3. Brin, thank YOU for this post. I needed to hear it. I am always finding myself apologizing for not living up to my "blog duties". I guess I feel obligated to make it a full-time job so I don't disappoint my readers.

  4. Brin, I thought this was great. And I think YOU are great :) Thanks for sharing this, it is a great reminder to all of us blogging ladies that while it's important to encourage one another to grow in this community, it's also SUPER important to encourage each other to thrive and flourish outside of this "world" :) Have a great week Brin!

  7. I don't know why we apologize....sometimes I think the blogging community has programed us to believe we must post every single day or we're awful. I know that I've felt guilty because of it which is dumb because my blog is not my life!
